Watching and waiting....

It was with abject horror that we saw the headlines and heard the news on sky news this morning (the channel that seems to be on tv every morning!) that there was a bomb found in a merc in the haymarket area in london. Mmmmm, a bit scary since we're due to fly out in 2 weeks and had planned to visit london central during our stay. One wonders if this supposedly 'failed' bomb will make the terrorists more determined to see a bomb explode in london and make plans to action this. We can only observe and hope it all quietens down, though we never know when they will strike. We are just worried about friends of ours who live and work in london, in the midst of all this going on. I think we will keep our visits to central london to a minimum, during the week especially. I know the chances of being around and being hit in a blomb blast 2 weeks down the line, are slim but if things get a bit dodgy, we'll keep away.

Although it will hopefully not affect us and we're praying the weather will improve before we arrive, we were shocked to see such devastation after all the flooding in northern england and it looks set to continue apparently! It is not seemingly normal to have so much run at this time of the year... it can only be a result of global warming one would think?! I guess we can't worry about things we cannot control so just have to press on and hope that conditions improve in 2 weeks?!

We are looking forward to coming out to the UK to visit and before we know it we will be winging our way over there with lil Jordy who I hope is not too unsettled on the flight. What will be, will be I guess. Fortunately his passport has come through on time as we were worried it would not get processed with all the striking etc, but we've got it now thankfullly. We will probably have a busy 2 weeks, but either way, we'll have a great time. I'm going to make sure I put a leash/harness on Jordy, when we're out and about, and especially at the airport, as I'm so worried about kidnapping, as travelling abroad with young children is a bit more difficult and one can't take things for granted, but with us both to keep an eye on him, all will be just fine.

We look forward to seeing you all in london when we visit. We will get a UK mobile and will sms to confirm plans to meet up on the date suggested. I will email you all and give you Mark's mom's number where we'll be for the first week, incase you need to contact us and are not able to reach us on the mobile.

I must dash, but I will blog again soon! Have a great weekend all of you!

Jason to the rescue....

It's amazing to think that while some of us go about our week with seemingly mundane tasks to complete, there are those amongst us who are called to save lives, and in this case it was Jason (Kirsty's hubby) who was called out last night on behalf of the airforce base, to rescue about 50 people from the building on fire in Durban central, airlifting them via helicopter, to the beach where medics were there to attend to their needs. Fortunately there were no serious injuries, but speaking to Jason, he admitted that it was quite frightening, hovering above the building, wondering if it would collapse at all which with the strong winds, and flying at night, made flying a bit more treacherous. He did a good job though, albeit that he only got home at 1am this morning, but he was glad he could help. Fortunately the fire although serious, did not get out of control. Sadly the fires in the midlands have been very devastating, with 8 horses having died and houses burnt down, made worse by the winds. And now, watching the weather report, it's anticipated that we could have snow on the berg, with cold and wet weather expected. It's very unusual for Durban in winter, but so much has changed in terms of weather patterns.

Mark's just reminded me that prison break is about to start so I must go, but I'll blog again soon.

Keep warm!

So kissable!

I just had to post these pics on our blog for you all to see. They are pics of Jordy taken last weekend, on father's day. I am sure most of you would agree he is so kissable. We just love him to bits! He certainly keeps us on our toes and there is just never a dull moment with him around. He does try our patience at times and pretends not to hear us when we say "No" so we've had to resort to reprimanding him in a way so as not to upset him too much or crush his spirit. Of late, he's a very chatty little boy, though he can't say many words yet. Hopefully it won't be long. "Selfishly", we don't feel ready for baby number 2 yet, even though I'd be carrying for 9 months and we'd still be able to enjoy Jordy, but I'll say as much as to suggest there may be another baby born by the end of 2008, god willing. What will be, will be.

It's hard to believe we're halfway through the year already... where has the time gone!? We're leaving in 3 weeks to go to the UK for 2 weeks' holiday which is exciting, but also a touch daunting, in terms of getting all my orders done before we go... knowing how the week passes by so quickly. We're going to visit Mark's family for the most part, but hope to also catch up with friends at some stage. Having Jordy with us will limit us in terms of not being able to rush here, there and everywhere, but it will force us to have a break as well, and certainly for Jordy's sake, we can't plan too much as he will probably find the change of environment and the activities quite overwhelming and may tire more easily. But, we'll take it as it comes and just have a good time, no matter what.

Well, it's Carte Blanche on now, which I don't like to miss, so I will blog again through the week. Have a good week all and keep warm!

Take Care

Only one more sleep....

Well, the time has amost come to watch the first episode of series 3 in Greys Anatomy.... and we can't wait! For those who don't watch, I'm sorry if this is arb news, but for those who do... enjoy it! I just hope Jordy is asleep by 7.30pm tomorrow night... holding thumbs. With him teething at the moment (all 4 eye teeth coming through at once), he's been quite niggly and has had a disruptive sleep pattern, which is understandable, poor soul.

To all of you who are celebrating father's day today... we hope you've had a lovely day with your family! Mark got a card from Jordy with a cooked breakfast and I'll bake a chocolate cake for tea later. We're going to watch the comrades runners in westville shortly, and then my folks are coming around for a braai this afternoon/evening so we're having a fairly relaxing day which we all needed. Not quite sure when I'll get into the garden but hopefully next weekend it will be a free weekend without any clients and I will have the time to potter around at home. The week is often so busy that any free time is spent with Jordy, and when he's sleeping, we're tidying up after Jordy and/or working on orders. Still, it's all good!

I will post an entry on our blog again soon but please also send us your news! I will hopefully have a chance to catch up with those of you I've not managed to speak to or see much lately, in the next week or two. I knew June would be a busy month, but it's been hectic! I'm already looking forward to our next break in July - we're going to the UK for 2 weeks, for a family wedding and also to see Mark's family and friends of ours over there who we don't often get to see! Will tell more soon when we've got more of an itenerary.

bye for now

Look at that face!

Yesterday (12th June) was Mark's birthday which Jordy clearly enjoyed more than even Mark did, as you can see from the pic of Jordy eating cake (below). We had to do some damage control because we had chocolate cake handprints on the carpet, but caught it before there was a path of 'paw prints'.

I wonder if Dad will let me blow the candle out...

Mmmmm.... this chocolate cake is good!

Every picture tells a story!

Welcome to the world, Jessica

Jessica Anne Hansen was born last night at 11.30pm, at Westville, and her proud parents - Roland and Louise are thrilled to have a little girl and sister for Matthew. Mom and baby are doing well! We've not yet seen them, but will visit once they are home! We look forward to meeting Jessica!

Carol and Geoff's little boy Daniel has had a rough time, having had to be hospitalised for a week with pneumonia... and he's only 3 weeks old. Fortunately he's much better and came home today which is good news! I hope he continues to get better and is soon 100%!

We hope Tam, Andrew and Mikaela are doing well... will catch up again soon Tam and look forward to meeting your little cherub, Mikaela!

The Adventures of Jordan & Anna

Hi Everyone

Just thought we'd share some photos of Jordy and Anna, which we thought you may enjoy! It's so sweet to see them together. Jordy is so gentle with Anna and loves her to bits, and Anna just looks at her cousin adoringly. Jordy's already been briefed that he cannot take Anna to any wild nightclubs when they are older!?!? Anna is at such a lovely age and stage now and is so aware of what's going on around her. She smiles so readily... and is beautiful as I'm sure you'll agree!

We were quite excited yesterday when Jordy successfully managed to feed himself with a spoon without messing half his dinner on the floor, so that was quite a milestone for him. Today he kicked the ball around the front garden which again, was quite exciting for us as well as him since it was another first. Seeing Smudge (our cat) climbing the tree earlier today, Jordy was very intrigued, and decided that he too wanted to climb the tree... and here's proof. Okay, don't stress... we were holding him... the camera work is so good you can't see any extra hands. It's not a case of "look Ma, no hands" - I'm too much of a whoosie to just leave it to chance!

We can't believe how much Jordy is learning on a daily and weekly basis... it's so rewarding to watch. He is like a sponge too... taking in everything and so keen to learn, so we try and make the most of every opportunity to teach him things he is likely to grasp, and we try and stimulate him as much as we can. He just loves books and he knows that after his bath and dinner, it's story time before he goes to bed, and he makes sure that he gives me a book to read to him. Sometimes if I'm tidying up in the kitchen or hanging his towel out and haven't yet managed to get to his room, he comes to find me and thrusts a book into my hands. He's just so precious... we love him to bits! I have to say, as much as I enjoy what I do and need the stimulation work-wise, there is nothing like putting down tools so to speak, after a working day and being with Jordy... albeit exhausting and draining at times, but never-the-less rewarding.
